Ever wondered where to find the best coffee in Sunderland? Look no further! Here is a list of the top 5 coffee spots that will cover all you caffeine addicts like me.

The Sweet Petite is located in Sunderland city centre on High Street West offering a variety of delicious cakes, cookies, brownies and much more you name it they got it!
This little coffee shop is beautifully decorated with a modern vintage interior, with paneling on the walls and antique furniture. The cafe has a cosy atmosphere., each table has an intricately organised flower arrangement in the centre giving an added homely feel.
They offer the most incredible afternoon tea with a new menu for each season. Giving you the best excuse to go back for more! Get them while you can, as these spaces fill up super fast. I was lucky enough to book a place and let me tell you I was not disappointed, there is so much choice you don’t know where to start. Mixing cakes and quiche it’s hard to decide what to try next. These afternoon teas only cost £22.50 per person and are definitely something to try in Sunderland if you’re looking for somewhere new for a little coffee date.

Otto is located near Park Lane metro and is the perfect spot for a coffee or a cocktail depending on the hour. This adorable coffee shop offers stunning lattes and hot chocolates during the day and on certain nights they bring out the cheeky cocktail menu, this is the perfect pre-drinks atmosphere for those who want to get the night started or even those who want to chill with a book and a tasty drink.
The staff are super friendly and you can even speak to them about booking this spot for any gathering/party. I had the pleasure of celebrating my 21st birthday here and got to choose my cocktail of choice for the evening making my birthday feel that little bit more special.
Otto are offering a coffee tasting and appreciation night on the 2nd of February with Alex the coffee connoisseur you can book now if you’re interested!

Resinn is Sunderland’s best (in my opinion) pop up cafe and homeware store located in Ashbrooke Sunderland owned by Kate and Erik. They have built their business from their passion for coffee and interior design to create this stunning pop up coffee shop in their home. Erik makes the most beautiful smooth coffee which pairs perfectly with the variety of bakes on offer, from espresso muffins to extraordinary lemon cheesecake there’s so many amazing treats.
They are currently restoring their beautiful townhouse into a family home and offer incredible homeware pieces you can buy. Whilst you drink your coffee you leave without buying the entire store.

Follow them on Instagram @Resinn and @Resinn_the_store to follow their journey and find out when the next pop up event is happening.

The little Shop is perfect for those who want a beautiful coffee on the go located opposite the fire station on High Street West. Their little shop is exactly what it says little. Although it is only small, they offer so much with a choice of pastries for the week (This week they are offering pistachio and white chocolate scroll) and multiple snacks and coffee beans, you can fill all your coffee needs in this little shop.
The lovely Patricia is usually behind the counter working her coffee magic, their lattes and hot chocolates are to die for. Whether you’re on your way to work and need that caffeine fix or you’re just looking for somewhere new this is the place for you.

Port Independent offer clothes and coffee! Who doesn’t want that? After you finish browsing the clothing section you can wander over and have some chill time with a brew surrounded by beautiful artwork. The shop has a cosy atmosphere with plenty of plants and comfy seats.

Drink & Draw night at Port Independent

I had the pleasure of attending their very first Drink & Draw night where a spent hours tapping back into my creative side and picking up a pencil after so many years (turned out very interesting lol)
I met so many friendly and talented people and ended up staying for hours chatting with everyone and getting creative. They offer art supplies on arrival or you can take your own if you prefer. This was the perfect mid week treat for me after a busy day at work. It’s the best detox. The event lasted 3 hours from 6pm-9pm and I hope to see another one soon. Keep a lookout on their socials for more upcoming events from them, it is ideal for those who want to get social and meet new people.
The Front Parlour Coffee House & Kitchen

The Front Parlour is just up the road from Otto, it took me a while to spot this one but after finally getting a chance to visit I have to say this is a hidden gem! It has a homely atmosphere with a lovely bay window table for those who like to watch the world go by.
They offer different cakes daily to go with a beautiful cup of tea or coffee. Their baked goods are a treat on those rainy days.
The Front Parlour also offers an afternoon tea menu at £22.50 per person. They have a selection of cakes, bakes, scones and savouries you can’t say no to that! With a minimum of 48 hours notice this cosy little tea offers bottomless pot of English tea and other alternatives if you want to try their beautiful house blend coffee.
I hope this little guide helps you choose your next coffee stop in Sunderland there are so many amazing places to try these are just a few of my personal favourites.
