When you think of self care what do you think of? There are so many ways you can practise self care yet so many of us seem to neglect this, whether it’s due to busy weeks or even a busy mind self care is just as important as your work and relationships.
It’s all about what works for you! Here are a few of my favourite self care habits I practise to keep on top of that busy work/life balance.

Daily Workouts:
Whether is a home Pilates workout, a yoga class or a long walk keeping the body moving is great form of physical self care.
I used to put off signing up to the gym or go for a run because I had so much anxiety wondering, Am doing this right? Do I look stupid? These thoughts really got me down for so long until I fully looked into my options. Now I find it more comfortable to do home workouts where I just roll out the mat and use a useful YouTube video without the added stress, not only has this helped me gain experience but has also given me the confidence to workout outside. When running I still choose those quieter parks which helps me work on my insecurities, working through this slowly and focusing on my own form of physical self care.

Good Sleep
The key to a good day is getting the right amount of sleep. We all fall into the trap of social media on an evening where we tell ourselves just one more video, next thing we know it’s 2am and we need to be up for work in 4 hours!
To get into that routine I started using less social media and reduced my screen time before bed to get me in that chilled mentality. I leave my phone out of reach to keep distractions away create a better habit.

Spending Time with yourself
Many of us distract ourselves with our phones, Netflix or if you’re like me both at the same time! This leaves little room for your own thoughts as your mind is constantly distracted.
Spending time with yourself can feel uncomfortable at first, I’m not saying you have to sit there in silence and hope something happens. Personally I like to listen to something relaxing and complete some guided meditation to bring that self awareness back.

Goal Setting
Goal setting is a personal favourite of mine, ever since I downloaded the digital planner from The Productivity Method I have found a way to organise my thoughts and goals all into one place where there is a constant reminder for me to stay motivated. This could be a small habit like drinking 2 litres of water each day that I can track, to a much bigger projects.
Having these set goals are a great form of self care as it creates direction and personal growth.

Form New Relationships
Forming new personal and professional relationships is a good form of social self care. Going out and meeting new people can sound scary when you don’t know where to start., recently I have discovered the Girl Who Walk who are groups of girls around the North East who host socials and get together from day time walks to dessert evenings, there’s something for everyone and it’s the perfect opportunity to connect with new people.
Finding a community around your interests helps to, personally I have found a Yoga community at my weekly classes at Wellness Space. This group of like minded people really help me stay positive every week.
If you’re into reading why not join a book club or if you love running why not join that local running club. Whatever it is there is a community out there for everyone, so go and enjoy.

Reading Personal Growth Books
There is a stigma around reading self help books but there is no shame in it. If you struggle with anxiety or want to learn about personal growth or even to get your finances inn order, there is a book out there for everyone. These types of books help us become more aware of ourselves and attitude and to really connect with our own thoughts and emotions.

Journaling & Practising gratitude
I can’t say this enough as you have probably seen in my previous posts. Journaling has become my new best friend, I take 5 minutes each day to write in the 5 minute journal and I have found this to be a great start to my day and self care journey.

Having a Organised workspace
Having a clean workspace and home is always a great motivator when your home/workspace is tidy it automatically boosts your mood and productivity.

Go to a Coffee Shop
There are so many places you can go and sit with a coffee and a good book and just take your time whether you only have 20 minutes or you spend the whole morning there. This is a great way to get out of the house and take some time for yourself. Its true what they say about being outside, it increases your energy.
So why not grab your favourite book and head to your local coffee shop.

Watching Nostalgic Films
One of my favourite things to do when I am feeling low is to watch my comfort shows (In moderation of course). Sometimes you just need to grab that Ben & Jerry’s and a giant spoon for one and binge every Bridget Jones film or girly chick flick.

I hope this post helps you figure out your self care goals and consider practising these good habits and always remember to enjoy the little things in life.
